Although there’s really no such thing as transitioning into fall when you live in Northern Michigan, it’s still fun to stock up on fall apparel as we say goodbye to summer in a few short weeks. After next weekend, you’ll find me in my bedroom doing some pre-fall cleaning, and replacing my short-lived tank tops, shorts, and bikinis, with scarfs, leather boots, and heavy-knit sweaters. As much as I love summer, I can’t deny I get a little excited when this moment happens! Most people would call me sick for admitting that. ?
Today, I’m super excited to share my favorite early fall items with you guys! The best part? Everything is $50 and under! And, if for some reason you’re not feeling the items I’ve highlighted in today’s post, make sure to check out Jcrew Factory, H&M, GAP, and other brands I cover below – they have amazing deals going on right now. I’ve come to find out that August is the best month to shop for fall pieces. So many good deals, guys!

So, let’s start with jackets…
I LOVE jean jackets because they are probably the most timeless piece of clothing that has ever happened, right? They are the best investment, because they never go out of style and work with mostly all seasons. I always bump up a size with a jean jacket so I can fit a chunky sweater beneath it for the fall season. H&M has adorable ones right now like this one. They also have pretty embroidered ones, but unfortunately, most of them go over the $50 budget!
Adding a little bit of color on the list – this blush colored Katie Ponte Wrap Front Duster Jacket from Boohoo is currently 50% off and only $18!
When I purchase tops, I always ask myself, “Can I wear this to both work and dinner with friends?” If I answer yes, then I feel a lot less guilty when I click that ‘submit payment’ button. One piece that I really like for both work and play, is this GAP bodysuit. I like the idea of wearing a bodysuit to work, because you don’t have to worry about anything coming untucked when you reach or bend. Plus, it looks great with dress pants and a belt, as well as casual jeans for the weekend! Who knew bodysuits would be so useful?
I have owned this gingham button up shirt for the past two years, and I wish I had it in every color! The boyfriend fit makes it perfect to pair with leggings and a vest as it completely covers the bum. It’s also really light-weight, making it work for summer as well. It’s at the top of the $50 budget, but so worth the purchase!
I truly believe you can never have enough sweaters living in the Midwest. There isn’t a month that I go without wearing some type of sweater. H&M is my usual go-to place to find high quality and affordable pieces. I love that they have tops as low as $12, to heavy-knit sweaters for no more than $50. H&M currently has great deals on a variety of neutral colored cardigans like this one, which comes in black, gray and burgundy!
Every other fall or so, I purchase a good pair of black and brown bootie heels like these (currently on sale for $20!) that can be dressed up or down. I like that the heel isn’t too high where they might get uncomfortable after a while. I just bought a pair of these Converse Chuck Taylors in gray and love them! I especially love the white because they’ll go with everything. I’m horrible when it comes to keeping things clean, so I decided to stick with the gray. 😉
I noticed a few cute items by Sole Society when I was in Nordstrom this past weekend, like this wool hat and faux leather purse. I love these wool hats for the fall and winter season! Sole Society has great prices, and a great selection of bags if you’re not one to splurge on purses!
And last but not least, as we all need at least one knit scarf in our fall wardrobe, this waffle knit circle scarf is on sale for under $20!
What are your favorite go-to pieces for the fall season?
