Last weekend I decided it was time to do something different with my nightstand that is always cluttered with either coffee cups, random papers, chargers, or literally anything I’m not sure what to do with and need a place for. Since the only decor I keep on my nightstand is my lamp, I made it a priority to go out and find some affordable decor that would make my nightstand more appealing and also functional by minimizing the clutter.
Although I struggle to decorate any type of bedroom or space and I’m nowhere near having an eye for interior design, I’ve found that you can decorate very easily with simple objects you most likely already own. Today, I’m sharing my five go-to elements that work for me when decorating any type of nightstand, end table, dresser or shelf, that you may find needs a little something extra. 🙂
Flowers
Even though I love a fresh of bouquet of flowers, I typically stick to faux whenever I can (because I wasn’t born with a green thumb). I found these at Jo-Ann Fabrics and stuck them in this adorable ceramic planter I got from Revisions Design Studio. If faux isn’t your thing, pick up a fresh bouquet of flowers and stick them in a vase – it can make a world of difference!
Art
Art can be expensive, but if you look in the right places you can typically find a good bargain. I found this print at Shopko for $8 and knew it would be perfect to hang over my nightstand. (Yes, $8 for the frame and all!) I’ve seen people hang art, lean it against a wall, or layer it with other pieces depending on how much room there is. And if you’re not a fan or art, framed pictures look cute too.
Lamp
Of course, a lamp is essential on any nightstand unless you like the idea of a floor lamp. I wake up pretty much every morning at 6am for work and on weekends not much later, just because my body has developed a routine. I love switching on my lamp for the first five minutes when I’m trying to wake up in the morning and I also love it before bed when I want to read. IÂ find the price of floor lamps absolutely ridiculous, so (as usual) I went the cheaper route. I wanted a lamp that was bulky and wouldn’t tip, and gave off a lot of light. I found this one on sale at Meijer for $20 and it happened to match the frame on the art print perfectly.
Books
Stack a set of books anywhere on a nightstand if you’re looking to fill space. If you have a large amount of books that you want to stand, bookends are great to be used as a design staple as well. (West Elm has the cutest bookends I think I’ve ever seen!) Books can also be used to add height or to be a stage for another item.
Storage Bins
Storage bins like these are my favorite because they are both pretty and functional. They work for stacking and styling, along with storing receipts, paper bills, remotes, and other random things I don’t want to leave laying around my bedroom. I got the ones pictured from Jo-Ann Fabrics for 40% off!
