4th of July is by far one of my favorite holidays, and there’s nowhere else I’d rather celebrate our independence than at home. I think one of the best memories I have growing up is standing on my grandparents front lawn, overlooking Lake Michigan and waiting patiently for the fireworks show to start with my sister and cousins. We’d spend the evening dancing around with a sparkler in each hand and later going through boxes of bang snaps (or poppers), seeing who could throw the loudest “pop” on the pavement!
Whether you’re one to host a 4th of July celebration with friends and family, or like to party hop like me and bring a party favor, I’ve got this easy festive ice bucket tutorial for you today!
How perfect is this to chill your liquor and/or wine? It’s SO easy to make and perfect for an outdoor party served on a tray!
What you’ll need:
- One large galvanized bucket or plastic bucket
- One smaller galvanized or plastic bucket that fits inside the larger one (but leaves 1-2 inches in between buckets)
- Red and blue fruit or flower petals
- A tray to set the ice bucket on when serving
Directions:
Prepare your fruit and flower petals.
Fill the larger bucket with 1-2 inches of water and let freeze overnight until solid.
Place the smaller bucket in the middle of the larger bucket and put rocks or heavier objects in to help weigh it down.
Fill the larger bucket (outside the smaller bucket) with 2-3 inches of water and push your fruit and flower petals down into the water. Pack as many flower petals and fruit in as you can!
Place in freezer and freeze until solid. Repeat steps until you reach the top.
When layers are completely frozen, place your large galvanized bucket in a sink full of hot water and wait for the ice to loosen. Once the bucket releases, fill the middle bucket with hot water and wait for it to loosen. You can also take a butter knife and carve out the sides if the bucket is not budging.
Serve on a tray and celebrate!
XO
